And We're Back!!!
Which brings me to the Raffle. We want to try to have fellow classmates who have a product, service, or just something cool donate these items to a raffle that will be done that night at the reunion. You will be able to purchase raffle tickets at the reunion to win (hopefully) some pretty cool stuff. The proceeds from the raffle will go towards keeping costs for future reunions down. We will display logos/information for those who choose to donate on the blog and facebook. We hope that this will be a good way to let others know what you are doing. Especially in an economy where some may be experiencing a bit of a hard time, we can use this as an opportunity to help someone out that we once roamed the halls with. Cheesy? Too bad.
So anyway, do your best to spread the word so that we can have a great turnout. The more people the less lame! And we promise this blog will have more updates than just this one this year!!

Catching Up!

What have you been doing since high school?
Travel: I went to Russia with my parents to help with the adoption of my little sister (2001, maybe? It feels like a long time ago). I lived in Hawaii for a year (2003). And I went on an LDS mission to Brasil (Campinas, 2004-2005).

Marriage: Christopher West and I got married in August 2007. We were pretty much made for each other—meaning that we’re both nerds and we are incapable of being thrifty when it comes to buying books.

I’ll finish my master’s degree next April—English (emphasis in creative writing). I teach freshman composition and creative writing at BYU, which I love. And I get to write a collection of short stories for my thesis. Everyone asks what I want to do with that once I finish. I say: be happy. When they say, ‘no really,’ I say: write amazing books. When they laugh, I usually just stop talking.
Kids: Not yet. We want kids, but for now we just work in the nursery at church. We’re very good at making the faces they do. It comes with lots of practice.

What is your current favorite song?
"Cap and Bells" by Belly of the Whale. The lyrics are a Yeats poem. Check them out: http://www.myspace.com/

Favorite food indulgence?
Christopher and I once saw this cheesy advertisement at the grocery store for "Cheeses of the World." We started buying different cheeses every time we went shopping. We stopped buying new varieties as soon as we discovered garlic cheese at Costco. Mmm…creamy garlic cheese.
Did you know they have a Wallace and Gromit brand of Wensleydale cheese?

If you could have one super power what would it be?
Flying. Or apparating. Is that a power? I basically just wish I would never be late.
Worst habit?
Reading on the toilet. And shameless self-promotion. For both, see my other blog: http://mycaseofwritersblog.
Sun or snow?
SUN: I’m solar-powered. I lived in Hawaii for a year, came home for a month during a Utah winter (miserable), and then took off for Brasil for 18 months.
Winter kind of gets me down. I handle it ok as long as I can bundle up warm, spend time with friends, and drink plenty of raspberry-flavored hot chocolate. And Finnish sauna saves the day when January looms.
What is one of your guilty pleasures?
Bakeware. Seriously. My friend started selling the most amazing bakeware from France. Look at the cute little spider-web brownies I made for Halloween:

Is that not the silliest thing to be proud of?
Craziest thing you have ever done?
I don’t do too many crazy things. I once wrote an essay in a couple of hours and won a thousand bucks for it. Does that even count?
Russia was a little crazy, now that I look back on it. When we left Utah, the airline we needed was on strike and we didn’t know if we could actually fly into Russia after we hit our layover in Korea. We went anyway.
Through an almost surreal experience—including mad, asthma-inducing dashes through two different airports—we got into Russia, but were stopped in the airport; the Russian dude helping with our adoption actually got us the wrong kind of passport. Our group sat in a big cement room for an hour, hoping that the Russians wouldn’t send us back. They didn’t. Sophie, who just turned 11, has been with us for 7 years now.

What makes you laugh?
Christopher, mostly. The Office. The Colbert Report. The Daily Show.
Life would be simpler if…
I didn’t have to grade papers; my freshmen might actually want to learn instead of work the system. I could avoid fifteen-minute discussions in my office over a single point on a paper, and actually talk about writing.
Your greatest accomplishment?
Moving home one summer. My mom got really sick a few years ago with a mysterious disease. The doctors couldn’t figure it out and I couldn’t really help much except for taking care of the house and the younger kids who still lived at home.
Turns out, I’m total crap at keeping things together, cleaning the house, doing laundry and cooking semi-decent meals. I just kept things contained enough that nothing exploded while my dad was figuring out my mom’s diagnosis. I like to think I saved the day. But that summer probably gave me more—in terms of knowing who’s really important to me—than any experience in my life.

CATCHING UP!
What have you been doing since high school?
What is your current favorite song?
Missy Higgins-Where I stood
Favorite food indulgence?
Sushi, Sushi and Sushi!
Worst habit?
Sun or snow?
I am a summer girl at heart, but in the winter I love to ski! The snow is not bad for a little while. I am just not crazy about the length of our Utah winters.
What is one of your guilty pleasures?
OH boy I love frosting, any kind would do for me. I can’t control myself if I make a cake and there is a tub right in front of me. I would eat it before it even was spread on the cake.
Craziest thing you have ever done?
I rode my bike 206 miles in one day from Logan to Jackson Hole. It took almost 13 hours. I am doing it again this year. I am crazy!
Oh and that one time when I danced in front of our Alta students at a girls basketball game in spandex and a shirt with a golden retriever on the front. All because Danny Westinskow told me it would be funny! I would never in my wildest dreams think of doing anything like that again…I was a dork! Anyone remember? I hope not! What makes you laugh?
My brother, dad and little sister make me laugh the most. The Office is brilliant, it is hilarious! I do like watching any movie with Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Tina Fey and Amy Poeller.

Life would be more simple if…
If I didn’t have to worry about dating anymore, not fun! If we could live in the present day instead of worrying about what happened yesterday and what is going to happen tomorrow. If we could all just ride our bikes everywhere and didn’t have to worry about gas prices!
Your greatest accomplishments?
My 7 marathons, Lotoja 2 times, Boston Marathon 2006

CATCHING UP!
What have you been doing since high school?
Well, my current status is; divorced single mum to four kids under the age of 3! Yes you read that correctly, I have been up to quite a bit lately. I am also a Hairdresser/Cosmetologist. I am back home in Canada Eh! I live in Nanaimo British Columbia which is on Vancouver Island. It is definitely the place to live if you enjoy walking to the beach and seeing a pod of Killer Whales swim by. It is also a wonderful destination to those who like rain! A lot of rain, nearly every day!

Ty and Rylie!
Well lets just say that songs 1,2,5 and 7 of the Leona Lewis CD have been on repeat for 8 days now.
Favorite food indulgence?
Cherry Cheesecake
If you could have one super power what would it be?
To be able to perform plastic surgery on myself, tummy tucks and lippo!
Worst habit?
None that I particularly want to make public at this time!
Sun or snow?
Sun! The closest thing to sun up here is fog lights!
What is one of your guilty pleasures?
Rings. I love to buy myself really nice rings! The bigger the better.
Craziest thing you have ever done?
Well it is currently an ongoing crazy thing, there is a huge spider in my kitchen that greets my every morning and I cannot bring myself to squish her. Not only have I let the 6 legged spider live I have named her Izzy! I tried to get a picture but she scurried away.
What makes you laugh?
At this precise moment… My daughter Rylie, she is quite the character. Today she randomly told a stranger at the grocery store “my mum is done. She is not having any more kids, four is enough and she has had it up to here! So there will be no more.”
Life would be more simple if…
they supplied single mums with cooks, maids and a full nights sleep.
Your greatest accomplishments?
My children, Ty Daniel, Rylie Dawn Alwyn, Oliver Deklan and Olivia Alysse. I have to say they are the cutest kids ever and they are such wonderful additions to my life.

CATCHING UP
Our very first spotlight is HEATHER (HANSON) FISHER.
What have you been doing since high school?
Well, I attended BYU-Idaho and graduated in 2002 with an associates degree in pre-law/political science and then graduated from BYU in 2004 with a bachelors degree in political science.
The highlight of my time in college was the opportunity to do an internship with the US House Government Reform Committee. In addition to the great work experience, I fell in love with Washington DC and hope for the opportunity to live there again in the future.
Just prior to graduation in 2004 I began working on the John Swallow for Congress Campaign as the Office Manager and Campaign Scheduler.
In 2005 I began working for NAI Utah Commercial Real Estate. I began as an Administrative Assistant and later moved in to an Office Manager role.
In January 2008 I moved into the Human Resources Manager role that I love! While at NAI Utah I have been able to plan more than 30 events annually, including large meetings and several black tie events. Now I spend much of my day in interviews and overseeing the Administrative Staff in our 5 locations. I love my company and my job! I am hiring for several positions so if you are interested, send your resume to jobs@naiutah.com.
In 2003 I met and married my husband Matt Fisher. He graduated from Skyline High School and from the U of U. It’s definitely a mixed marriage!
We don’t have any children yet, but have the cutest puppy ever, Livvy. She is a miniature schnauzer and we have had her since Thanksgiving of 2007.
We own a townhouse in Draper, Utah. In addition to work, I am also involved in the young women youth group in my church so that keeps me busy too. Since high school I have taken photos here and there for friends of kids, engagements, weddings, and even aerial shots of SLC. I am hoping to do more with creative portrait photography.
What is your current favorite song?
I am very indecisive and knowing music has never been my forte so here are a few of my favs from my iPod:
The Luckiest – Ben Folds
Apologize – One Republic/Timbaland
Little Wonders – Rob Thomas
Everyday – Rascal Flatts
No One – Alicia Keyes
Love Song – Sara Bareilles
Favorite food indulgence?
I love Zupas restaurant, their salads, sandwiches, and soups are all good. Plus you get a chocolate dipped strawberry with every meal!
If you could have one super power what would it be?
That’s easy – to fly. It would take out the annoying traffic jams and the high costs of travel. How awesome would that be?!
Worst habit?
Staying up too late because I get up at 4:30a these days.
Sun or snow?
Sun, but I love it all.
What is one of your guilty pleasures?
Peanut butter and chocolate ice cream from Baskin Robbins.
Craziest thing you have ever done?
I have flown a small plane! Oh, and I just cut off ten inches of my hair!
What makes you laugh?
My husband and pretty much anything Steve Carell says or does (ie The Office, Get Smart).
Life would be more simple if…
I had four more hours in the day.
Your greatest accomplishments?
My college degree and receiving the Employee of the Year award in 2005. I have been blessed with many career opportunities that can be considered accomplishments, but are also due to the great mentors and leaders that have had the faith in me to give me the chance! I have never liked running, so since I just finished my second 5K in two months that is quite an accomplishment! If marriage can be considered an accomplishment, then I would say the opportunity to marry my husband and best friend. He is the best and I don’t know what I would do without him!
